KIDS’ ART CLASSES

NEW 6-WEEK COMICS AND CARTOONING CLASSES:
Tuesdays: 4-5:15 COMICS AND CARTOONING with BLAKE LEMONS (OCT. 6- NOV. 10)
Thursdays: 4-5:15 COMICS AND CARTOONING with BLAKE LEMONS (OCT. 8 - NOV 12)
Structure of Art Classes, by Level:
K-3rd: We are a mixed-media studio where classes are designed to give students autonomy in art, while teaching basic art techniques and principles. Little artists have time for free choice art, and an hour for guided art lessons in drawing, painting, clay hand-building, etc.
4th-6th: Artists have a lot more autonomy in how they approach creating. Students choose their own subject matter and medium, with the help of the instructor, and get to work sketching, painting, etc, with individualized instruction. There are less whole-group lessons per 12-week session.
7th+: Art Students have the autonomy to build their own curriculum with the guidance of our art instructors, with the exception of Hand-building. As we get to know your child, we also direct them in ways that play to their strengths as artists. Throwing on the potter’s wheel is introduced, as is portfolio building for artists applying to magnet high schools or colleges.

The Annex
Comics and Cartooning with Blake Lemons
C+C is an extension of our first Comics + Cartooning class, but all students are welcome—no previous experience required! 3rd–6th graders will create their own comics while contributing to a class anthology they’ll take home, exploring storytelling, character development, visual communication, and personal style along the way. The workshop culminates in a book reveal where students print, bind, and sign their anthology comics—perfect for fans of Marvel, Dog Man, Wings of Fire, manga, and everything in between!
